Issue No. 46-September 20100

Welcome to the September 2010 edition of the BCC E-News.

The new season has begun, and got off to a great start! The Photoclinic on September 9th was a great success, as was the Print and Digital Image Competition last week. Next week we welcom Rosie Armes FRPS who will give us a print lecture. Be nice to her, she’s also going to judge a competition early next year.

The LICC (London International Creative Awards) (as previously advertised here) have now judged their competition - follow this link to see the winning entries.http://licc.us/winners/finalists2010.php

The club has received an inquiry asking if anyone knows of a local camera repair shop. If anyone can help please let the questionner know brian@elliotbuildingservices.co.uk (a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 which was dropped on a sandy beach )

All members are invited to supply images for use in the club website galleries, which is a free service whereby you can have some photographs on the internet. Please send them to me, sized to 1400 x 1050 as per the competition entries to webmaster@basingstokecameraclub.co.uk

Chineham Exhibition

As Reported on the first evening, the Chineham Exhibition will be held this year from October 2rd - 16th, but with much reduced hanging space. Because of this entries will have to be limited to one per member at a maximum mount size of 14” x 11”. Please bring your entries along on either 23rd or 30th September. As usual the winner will be judged by the library staff.

On -line photo galleries are becoming more popular, and a directory of such sites made by members is planned. If you have a Flickr account or similar and would like to share your photos with club members please email a link to your site for inclusion to:

 webmaster@basingstokecameraclub.co.uk

If anyone woukld like the chance to buy some of the black print boxes many of our lecturers use please read this.

The closing date for the next order for PRINT BOXES SATURDAY, 9th OCTOBER 2010.

Boxes should be available for collection at the Club Reps meeting in November.

The prices remain the same as the last order but do remember that a VAT increase is on the horizon. I pointed out last time that Nomad have rationalized the pricing to some extent by removing the differential between similar sizes, e.g. 2½” depth and 3” depth cost the same. I would also like to point out that Nomad do give a discount on quantity. Obviously this cannot be reflected in the price of individual boxes but any ‘profit’ is paid to the SPF, thus helping to keep Federation costs down.

SIZE COST

21" x 17" x 1 5/8" £21.50             21" x 17" x 2" £21.50          21" x 17" x 2.5" £22.00

21" x 17" x 3" £22.00           21" x 17" x 3.5" £22.50        21” x 17” x 4” £22.50

21" x 17" x 5" £23.00                 21" x 17" x 6" £23.50

Handles can be supplied at an additional cost of £3.00.

Orders in writing and with cheques payable to J. PEARSON - Send to:

Mrs. Jennie Pearson,
6, Inhams Road, Holybourne, ALTON, Hants. GU34 4EU.
Before SATURDAY, 9th October 2010.
Boxes to be collected at the SPF Representatives Meeting
in November or by arrangement.

2010 open opportunities for artists at

Orleans House Gallery, Twickenham

Making it/Faking it

2nd October 2010 – January 2011

Deadline for submissions 20th August 2010

Through its annual open exhibition opportunities, Orleans House Gallery in Twickenham helps artists both locally and nationally to showcase their work in group exhibitions. Each year, over 500 individual artists (excluding those participating in Arthouse) exhibit work in a range of open exhibitions across three galleries - Orleans House and Stables Galleries, Twickenham and the Riverside Gallery in Richmond.

In 2010, we have further opportunities for you to submit artwork for an exhibition in Orleans House Gallery, Making It/Faking It. The theme of this exhibition is fakes, forgeries, homages and pastiches, or any works that explore the questions and notions of originality, influence and authenticity. Any media (prints, photos, paintings, objects, sculptures, film) and style are considered.

· Artists can submit up to 5 original works. Artworks must be submitted as high resolution jpeg files on a CD, with accompanying A4 sized photographic prints or colour printouts. Original artwork will not be accepted.

· Please clearly label each submission with: artist’s name, title of work, date, media, approximate size and price before commission if the work is for sale (the gallery adds 40% of the artist price for commission + VAT).

· In addition, please enclose contact details, an artist’s statement and CV.

· There is a £10.00 administration charge (which also contributes towards exhibition costs); £7.50 concessions (please include proof). Please make cheques payable to ‘L.B.R.U.T’. Your submission will not be accepted without payment.

2010 open opportunities for artists at

Riverside Gallery, Richmond

Picturing Science

4th December – February 2011

Deadline for submissions 23rd October 2010

Through its annual open exhibition opportunities, Orleans House Gallery in Twickenham helps artists both locally and nationally to showcase their work in group exhibitions. Each year, over 500 individual artists (excluding those participating in Arthouse) exhibit work in a range of open exhibitions across three galleries - Orleans and Stables Galleries, Twickenham and the Riverside Gallery in Richmond.

In 2010, we have further opportunities for you to submit artwork for an exhibition at Riverside Gallery, Picturing Science. Scientists use an abstract language of signs to visualize and explain the invisible forces, relationships and processes which make up our world. Artists similarly create images to transmit and analyse meaning. The theme of this exhibition is the collision, intersection and contamination of these two systems of representation.

· If you would like images returned, please enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope.

Successful artists will be contacted by email or in writing approximately two weeks after the deadline.
