Welcome to the October 2009 edition of the BCC E-News.

Chineham Exhibition

The annual Members’ Exhibition at Chineham Library was held at the Chineham Library from Saturday 3rd to Saturday 17th October.

As is usual, the library staff picked their 3 favourite photographs, which were:

1st “Web” by Dave Cole - WINNER OF THE COLAB TROPHY

2nd “Blue Tit” by Keith Polwin

3rd “Polruan” by Mike Farrow

Thanks to everyone who entered, and to the staff at Chineham Library who made us very welcome and once again judged the photographs. All comments received were complimentary, and they were very pleased with the response from members of the public.

Programme reports (or editorial ramblings)

It has been very nice to see a good number of new members this season, already we seem to have as many newbies as established members, a situation which is a novelty for us, so if things seem a little disorganised I hope the newer members will be a bit patient with the rest of us. And finding our feet in our new venue made it all the more exciting, especially for those of us who can remember times when membership was falling away.

We’ve had some good speakers in the last few weeks, each memorable in their own way. As a fairly long standing member, I found the evening dedicated to the work of Cliff Dyble quite enlightening, having heard much about his exploits from older members, but seeing his work brought back memories of happy hours spent in the darkroom. Could just have been the high from the chemicals though!

Then the next week the work of the two ladies from Chichester gave us insight into two very different approaches to their photography, providing some food for thought for newer and older members alike. Prior to that Mike Birbeck’s talk on getting the printing right served as a refresher course for all of us.

So it is with a renewed sense of purpose that the club approaches 2010, and we hope that the enthusiasm of newer members rubs off on the rest of us, and that more long-standing members in their turn can help newbies with harnessing their potential as photographers.

The club looks to be in better shape than it has for some time - long may it continue.
