Selling opportunity...maybe Marketing Photographs - Solent News and Photo Agency advert to Camera Clubs We are one of the UK's most well-established news and photo agencies, supplying picture material to all the UK national press and quite a vast range of magazines, both here and abroad. We have four staff photographers kept busy with the run-of-the-mill news and feature work we do each day, but I'm always on the lookout for more material. Over the years, since we began in the 1964, we've established very good working relationships with a variety of pro, semi-pro and keen amateur photographers across the country. They send us photographs which they think may stand a chance in a national paper. It ranges from a car stuck in a flood (taken and emailed to us on the same day), to a garden robin trained to take mealworms from someone's mouth. Last year's big hits included an amazing set of pictures taken by a workmen on lunchbreak, who, while snapping kingfishers at a nearby lake in his lunch hour, spotted a vixen swimming across to an island and stealing goose eggs, one by one, for her cubs. Another example was of a kingfisher, bursting out of the water clutching a fish in it's beak. The fox photographer conatcted five different photo agencies, all of whom said they weren't interested, before coming to us after trawling the internet. Interestingly, both the robin and kingfisher pictures were not recent. They had lain in the photographer's file, never seen by the public. And that illustrates an important point. If a picture has never been published, it's still news (providing it's in colour!). With all our contributors, we pay a straightforward 50/50 split of all monies made. And, touch wood, nobody has gone away unhappy yet! We write a story to go with the picture(s) and then push them as hard as we can to the London picture desks. I'm anxious to establish stronger links with camera clubs and societies around the UK, but especially local to us. With best wishes to you and your members, Sincerely, Chris Chris Balcombe website: www.solentnews.biz And another ... I run a successful creative agency called The Brand Surgery and for nearly 20 years and we have continually struggled to find stunning or amazing photos of normal* towns and villages at realistic prices for our brochures. As you know, a picture speaks a thousand words and we like to use stunning images as it makes our lives much easier!
