Welcome to the March 2010 edition of the BCC E-News.

Open Exhibition 2010

You may have seen that our own Len Quinn did rather well in the exhibition. He won 2 trophies, 4 certificates and also had another 6 acceptances. The trophies were the Harry Langmuire Trophy, for the best portrait by a BCC member, and the Les Podmore Trophy for the best overall image by a BCC member.

Well done Len, and thanks to all who entered, helping to make the exhibition a great sucess. Below are a few photos of prizewiners who attended the opening evening. Thanks to Wyn Voysey for these shots.

The DIGITAL ECONOMY BILL is an important issue for we photographers regarding some proposed legislation - this has been circulated to all camera clubs.

Hello everyone,

We have to act fairly quickly on this wretched proposed legislation.

Amongst a host of other proposed nasties, the unelected (all round nasty himself) Mandleson wants to be able to steal, YES STEAL, any image of yours that Government and or his (yacht owning) media cronies see and fancy using, without any payment or even credit to you.

This caring politician thinks that its OK to make the the most cursory of searches, i.e...if it doesn't have a water mark on it... we can have it...for free.

Ladies and Gentlemen... it stinks and I urge you all, please write even the shortest and simplest of letters to your M.P., as soon as possible.

If you want to know what it is all about just put Digital Economy Bill/ Mandleson into Google or try http://www.dontdisconnect.us/

You have been warned.

More on the DIGITAL ECONOMY BILL

As well as the rather strong wording of the item circulated above, the Royal Photographic Society and the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain have also felt strongly enough to issue papers on this subject.

It sounds like something we all need to know about so follow these links to see what they have to say about it.

Viewfinders of Romsey are having a fundraising evening and will be welcoming Donald Bradshaw to the Jubilee Hall in Timsbury on March 23rd to give one of his exciting presentations. As most of you will already know, Donald has travelled extensively around the world and has compiled a number of lectures in different locations, using his stunning images of the wildlife, landscapes and people.

This one gives an insight into the landscape and wildlife of Madagascar, and should be a fascinating evening, including of course images of the lemur which is unique to the island.
