Issue No. 43 - June 2010

Welcome to the June 2010 edition of the BCC E-News.

The summer season got off to a good start with fine weather for our visit to the Decoy Heath nature reserve. About 20 or so members turned out, and any locals around were treated to some formation photography as we all descended on some ferns which were unferling.

A variety of wildlife was in evidence so hopefully there will be some useful images around taken on the night.

The next evening on 10th June was a visit to Bowdown Woods, but unfortunately, as per last year, the rains came and there wasn’t much picture taking done.

The 17th June, as is the tradition aroundabout the longest day, brought not the barbeque evening but for a change a “picnic” evening. Essentially the format was the same - bring your own grub drinks and chair - but there was no need to clen the barbies afterwards, although our new hosts, Len and Lin Osborn, did provide one for those who can’t do without!.

With about 30 or so members and other halves turning up it was a very pleasant evening, and although it got a little cool later on, the weather was kind to us.

One nice touch was that our President Steve made a small presentation to Mike and Cath Farrow to say thanks to them for hosting the BBQ evening for the past 9 (?) years.

So a new venue this year, but no home-made bread!

Here’s a photo of Mike and Cath - at first I thought MIke got the better prize, but then Cath has got some new subject matter!

So all in alll a good evening, and a big vote of thanks to Len and Lin for making us all so welcome.

Resources for Digital Cameras

A new website called Review Centre (www.reviewcentre.com) is advertising itself as a “snappy camera resource”, and claims to publish:-

. “reviews are generated by people who visit our website & we don’t rely on experts – our content is genuinely produced by people out there buying these products. A large section of our website is dedicated to photography equipment (http://www.reviewcentre.com/consumer_reviews5.html, http://www.reviewcentre.com/consumer_reviews10.html) , and yesterday we published a digital camera resource guide over on our blog, http://rview.reviewcentre.com/digital-camera-resource-guide/.”

Might be worth a look if you’re thinking of upgrading.

In 2010, we have further opportunities for you to submit artwork for an exhibition in Orleans House Gallery, Making It/Faking It. 2010 open opportunities for artists at

Riverside Gallery, Richmond

Picturing Science

4th December – February 2011

Deadline for submissions 23rd October 2010

Through its annual open exhibition opportunities, Orleans House Gallery in Twickenham helps artists both locally and nationally to showcase their work in group exhibitions. In 2010, we have further opportunities for you to submit artwork for an exhibition at Riverside Gallery, Picturing Science. Scientists use an abstract language of signs to visualize and explain the invisible forces, relationships and processes which make up our world. Artists similarly create images to transmit and analyse meaning. The theme of this exhibition is the collision, intersection and contamination of these two systems of representation. Any media (prints, photos, paintings, objects, sculptures, film) and style are considered.

· Artists can submit up to 5 original works. Artworks must be submitted as high resolution jpeg files on a CD, with accompanying A4 sized photographic prints or colour printouts. Original artwork will not be accepted.
