Issue No. 19 -June 2008

Welcome to the June 2008 edition of the BCC E-News.

The Club’s schedule of regular meetings has now finished for the season, with the next meeting at The Sycamore Centre being the new season welcome meeting on Thursday 4th September.  Traditionally we have a few nibbles and a glass of wine and view photographs taken during the summer. Everyone is invited to bring some to show, further details will be advised in later issues of the BCC E-News.

So during June and July we meet informally each Thursday to take photographs, weather permitting, and then end the evening with a drink in the selected pub, usually chosen as it also serves food.

These evenings are very relaxed with no formal planning other than turn up with camera and take pictures.

Summer Programme Reports

Greywell - May 29th

A good turnout although the weather was a little overcast, with around 15 or so gathered in the Fox and Goose. A certain amount of photography took place and a few enjoyed the food from the pub. A fairly jolly evening was had by those in attendance.

Decoy Heath - June 5th

Possibly one of the best attended Summer Evenings in recent memory, with around 20 souls roaming around the nature reserve and another dozen who just headed for the Silchester Arms, where the combined numbers seemed to take over one side of the pub for a while when the photography ended.

It was a lovely evening and many photographs were taken. There was quite a range of subject matter available ranging from teasels to orchids.  Cath’s recommendation to wear wellies was proven to be good advice, although one or two seemed to suffer from the dreaded “leaky wellie syndrome”, which I believe is not a pleasant experience!

When the light failed around half eight we made our way to the pub where the welcome was warm and the beer cold, and the food was excellent.  A pleasant hour or two was spent comparing notes, and with cameras on show, we could also compare photographs, another benefit of the digital age!

Alresford - June 12th

Unfortunately the weather during the day was wet and windy, which may have put off a few, but the evening turned out to be really quite nice. Only 7 stalwart souls turned out but nontheless an reasonably enjoyable evening was forced out of the situation, with The Globe pub making us welcome, although they were so quiet we must have doubled their takings that night. Some photography took place, but the good light there was short lived.

Nice weather for ducks, or Coots anyway, on the Basingstoke Canal

Although subjects were plentiful at Decoy Heath there always seems to be a queue, doesn’t there?

With poor light close ups were the order of the day - here’s some flowers from the Alresford Station flower beds
