Issue No. 44 - July 20100

Welcome to the July 2010 edition of the BCC E-News.

You will have noticed a new look to your monthly BCC E-News as the new logo and colour scheme have been introduced. I hope you like it but please let me know what you think.

Pete

The Summer Programme evenings have been well attended so far, and this week we’re off to Winchester to visit the Magdalen Down Nature Reserve in the hope of seeing lots of butterflies to photograph. Please follow this link for directions.

You may have also noticed some changes to the club website. This is an ongoing upgrade at the moment which is not yet finished. All the pages are still there but may be in not quite the same place as previously. Please bear with me - the job should be finished in time for the new season start.

And speaking of the website, I am looking for members to supply images for use in the site as I’d like to have more photos on display. If you have any you would like to have on show please send them to me, sized to 1400 x 1050 as per the competition entries.

Previously it was announced that the Chineham Exhibition could not go ahead this year, but I can now announce that efforts are being made by the library staff to enable us to hold a small exhibition at the beginning of October. It’s not definite yet, but watch this space!

On -line photo galleries are becoming more popular, and a directory of such sites made by members is planned. If you have a Flickr account or similar and would like to share your photos with club members please email a link to your site for inclusion to:

 webmaster@basingstokecameraclub.co.uk

The rest of the Summer Programme dates:

July 22nd Magdalen Hill Downs This will be led by Keith Polwin, and for photographing butterflies. To find the location ...

July 29th River Loddon Park at The Milestone/Bartons Mill and take a wander down the canal...

Please visit the club website Programme page to see all the details

Tallaght International Salon of photographic art closing date approaching August 30th get your entries in fast to Ireland's biggest photographic salon and first with both FIAP and PSA patronage details are on attached file

2010 open opportunities for artists at

Orleans House Gallery, Twickenham

Making it/Faking it

2nd October 2010 – January 2011

Deadline for submissions 20th August 2010

Through its annual open exhibition opportunities, Orleans House Gallery in Twickenham helps artists both locally and nationally to showcase their work in group exhibitions. Each year, over 500 individual artists (excluding those participating in Arthouse) exhibit work in a range of open exhibitions across three galleries - Orleans House and Stables Galleries, Twickenham and the Riverside Gallery in Richmond.

In 2010, we have further opportunities for you to submit artwork for an exhibition in Orleans House Gallery, Making It/Faking It. The theme of this exhibition is fakes, forgeries, homages and pastiches, or any works that explore the questions and notions of originality, influence and authenticity. Any media (prints, photos, paintings, objects, sculptures, film) and style are considered.

· Artists can submit up to 5 original works. Artworks must be submitted as high resolution jpeg files on a CD, with accompanying A4 sized photographic prints or colour printouts. Original artwork will not be accepted.

· Please clearly label each submission with: artist’s name, title of work, date, media, approximate size and price before commission if the work is for sale (the gallery adds 40% of the artist price for commission + VAT).

· In addition, please enclose contact details, an artist’s statement and CV.

· There is a £10.00 administration charge (which also contributes towards exhibition costs); £7.50 concessions (please include proof). Please make cheques payable to ‘L.B.R.U.T’. Your submission will not be accepted without payment.

· If you would like images returned, please enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope.

Successful artists will be contacted by email or in writing approximately two weeks after the deadline.

2010 open opportunities for artists at

Riverside Gallery, Richmond

Picturing Science

4th December – February 2011

Deadline for submissions 23rd October 2010

Through its annual open exhibition opportunities, Orleans House Gallery in Twickenham helps artists both locally and nationally to showcase their work in group exhibitions. Each year, over 500 individual artists (excluding those participating in Arthouse) exhibit work in a range of open exhibitions across three galleries - Orleans and Stables Galleries, Twickenham and the Riverside Gallery in Richmond.

In 2010, we have further opportunities for you to submit artwork for an exhibition at Riverside Gallery, Picturing Science. Scientists use an abstract language of signs to visualize and explain the invisible forces, relationships and processes which make up our world. Artists similarly create images to transmit and analyse meaning. The theme of this exhibition is the collision, intersection and contamination of these two systems of representation.
