Welcome to the July 2009 edition of the BCC E-News.

POSSIBLE NEW VENUE

Certain members of your hard working committee have been beavering away behind the scenes to move the club meetings to a much nicer venue for next season. The most likely venue will be::

OAKRIDGE WEST COMMUNITY CENTRE, UPTON CRESCENT, OAKRIDGE, BASINGSTOKE RG21 5SN

Take a look at their website to learn more and see a location map.

And a big vote of thanks to Dave Cole for putting the wheels in motion for the move. Confirmation to be given shortly (we hope).

Summer Programme Reports

June 11th - Lake House

30 people enjoyed the beautiful weather at the Lake House , and I hope, the gardens too. We gave Lord Ashburton a cheque for £120 for the National Gardens Scheme, which supports gardening and nursing charities.

Cath.

June 18th - Longparish

About a dozen members made the trip to Lngparish for this fine evening, although the light was not ideal for snapping away the world as put to rights later in the pub. Overall an enjoyable evening.

June 25th - BBQ at the Farrows

Once again a good turnout, and good weather to boot!, and proceedings helped along by Zaid’s wondrous gas-fired barbecue, and of course Cath’s Panasonic Bread!!

July 2nd - Silchester

Although a slightly hazy/overcast, if warm, evening a good number turned out, and spent quite a long time in the pub garden afterwards, not leaving till gone 11 o’clock, such a warm evening it was.

July 9th - Morgaston Woods

A dozen or so keen photographers turned up for this evening, although the light was a bit flat, but those with macro in mind seemed to be the busiest of us. Good socialising followed in the pub.

BCC Dorset Trip

Time to add a little more detail to the planned club trip to Dorset 20-21 November 2009.

After looking around the area I have settled on accommodation at Swanage as a central point for the proposed trips. The hotel we are using is the Purbeck House Hotel & Louisa Lodge. This hotel (3 AA star) should have sufficient bedrooms (double, twin, single) and parking for all under one roof. It features two restaurants, free WiFi for those who can't do without and a range of the usual features for a 3 star hotel. I have negotiated a 10% discount from the hotel's November rates.

Cost for two nights accommodation:

Double room - £79.20 pp B&B £115.20 pp B&B + Dinner

Single room - same as above

The hotel has a limited number of single rooms ie 6, I have provisionally booked all of these. The hotel informs me there is a £20.00 per night supplement for singles occupying a double or twin room. This could easily be worked around by people sharing, this can be worked out a later date. I have secured the use of a hotel conference room free of charge. The plan is to use this facility Saturday evening for an informal view/critique of pictures taken during the day. We can also have a few short tutorial sessions, subjects to be decided later.

At the time of writing there are 13 people who have communicated their interest by email.

John Buttress, Rob & Sandra Stephen, Adrian & Nicky Knight, Cath & Mike Farrow, Lin Osborn, Suzette Landau, Shaun Davis, Phil Davis, Dennis Clapp, Steve Bright. At least 4 others have mentioned an interest.

The email will be used to keep people up to date with the latest info. Now the down side. It will require a £30 pp non-refundable deposit to secure the rooms. I have agreed with the hotel to pay this the first week in September. I will inform people how they can pay later when numbers are more or less finalised.

A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY

Following the success of six previous Teaching Seminars, the Imaging Science Group of the Royal Photographic Society is organising another of its 1 day tutorial seminars this year on Saturday 12th December in Regent Street, London, which is open to all, in an area of intense interest for keen amateur and professional photographers; it will be titled:

"Good Picture - 2009: Making Imaging Work"

A interesting selection of new subjects will be covered this year but it will again be focusing on important aspects of digital imaging. The attached files (Word and pdf) contain all the details of the day and refer anyone interested to a website for the application form: www.rps-isg.org. The website also contains details of the last six seminars.
