Issue No. 41 - April 2010

Welcome to the April 2010 edition of the BCC E-News.

Common Image competition and Set of 4 Prints competition.

These are both held on the same evening, 13th May. The rules are a little different to the norm but quite simple and informal:

COMMON IMAGE Each entrant has to produce a single mounted print based on the Common Image file as supplied by the club. Entrants are expected to show 2/3 intermediate prints to show how their entry was arrived at so those present on the night can see how they arrived at the eventual image. (think of it as school exam where you are suppposed to show your working). The competition is judged by the members present on the night on a points basis.

This comp has always been an enjoyable and entertaining evening, and gives an insight into each others’ photographic and creative thinking.

The Common Image file may be downloaded here. Thanks to Mike Farrow for supplying the image.

SET OF 4 PRINTS This is for an entry of a panel of four prints on any subject of the members’ choosing, with normal mounting rules applying, and is to be judged in the same manner as the Common Image comp.

In both of these competitions members must not mark their own work.

BCC Logo Competition

Don't forget the competition that we're running to try to find a new logo for the Club. We have a few entries so far, but we'd like to get more.

Full details of the competition were published in last month's Club Newsletter, but if you have any queries, just ask Nicky Knight or John Buttress.

The key points to remember are that you have until May 1st to get your entries in, and the prize for the winner will be free membership of the Club for the 2010-2011 season.

And finally, just to emphasise... we are happy to accept entries in almost any form. The important thing is to see your ideas. If your logo design idea is a good one, a rough sketch on the back of an envelope is just as welcome as a fancy entry in electronic form!

Those nice people at Picstop have agreed to give BCC members an exclusive offer. By entering this code “BCC-10-OFFER-0410” they’ll give us a 10% discount.

Cycling in art open exhibition – only 9 days left to submit 2010 open opportunities for artists at

Orleans House Gallery, Twickenham

Revolutions: cycling and art

7 –11 May 2010

Deadline for submissions Friday 23rd April 2010

Orleans House Gallery, Twickenham and Smarter Travel Richmond upon Thames are pleased to present local and national artists an opportunity to showcase their work once again, in group exhibitions.

Each year, over 500 individual artists exhibit work in a range of open exhibitions across three galleries – Orleans, Stables (Twickenham) and the Riverside (Richmond).

This exhibition will be held in the Octagon room, Orleans House Gallery, and focuses on art works inspired by the bicycle — from functional object to a canvas for good causes, personal expression and civic mindedness.

Up to five original works (prints, photos, paintings, objects, sculptures, film) will be considered.

· Artworks must be submitted as high resolution jpeg files on a CD, with accompanying A4 sized photographic prints or colour printouts. Please do not send original artwork as this will not be accepted.

· Please clearly label each submission with artist’s name, title of work, date, media, approximate size and price before commission if the work is for sale (the gallery adds 40% of the artist price for commission + VAT).

· In addition, please enclose contact details, an artist’s statement and CV.

· If you would like images returned, please enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope.

Successful artists will be contacted around 26 April. Artwork needs to arrive at Orleans House Gallery on Thursday 6th May 10am-4pm.

Any queries, please email curator Mark De Novellis at m.denovellis@richmond.gov.uk

Or call 020 8831 6000.
