When is Photoshop over the top?

An interesting story has come to light about a photographer who, in the opinion of the judges (!) over-did the photoshopping of his entries. Follow this link http://www.pressefotografforbundet.dk/index.php?id=11708

And an example of the other extreme .... http://stateoftheart.popphoto.com/blog/2009/04/wait-a-magazine-cover-without-photoshopping.html?cid=10

And for those of us who still use film, those nice guys at Nikon have a new product http://www.bjp-online.com/public/showPage.html?page=852278

So who’s right? Which is better? Who cares? Is it the image or the method which counts?........ (sounds like a pub discussion!)

Types of Noise

Not all digital noise is bad; here are a few examples of the different types of noise.

Image noise can come for luminance. This is known as “grayscale noise.” It can put that film grain look in your digital image. It may show up in continuous tone spaces.

Chroma noise appears in an image’s colored artifacts. These can be unattractive flecks of color that primarily appear in the shadow areas of your photos.

Both become more prominent during the sharpening process.
